ABOUT YOUR SYMPTOMS

Possible contagious infection

If influenza, COVID-19, or another contagious infection is possible, online care can reduce unnecessary contact while assessing symptoms and testing needs.

ONLINE CONSULTATION

What can be discussed online

If influenza, COVID-19, or another contagious infection is possible, online care can reduce unnecessary contact while assessing symptoms and testing needs.

  • Mild symptoms while breathing and hydration are stable
  • Advice about testing, isolation, or medication
  • Assessment of whether in-person care is needed

The doctor may recommend an in-person visit or tests when online assessment is not sufficient.

POSSIBLE CONDITIONS

Symptoms and possible conditions

Possible illnesses include COVID-19, influenza, viral gastroenteritis, chickenpox, shingles, and other community infections. Diagnosis may require an examination or test.

WHEN TO SEEK CARE IN PERSON

Seek prompt in-person care if any of these apply

These symptoms may indicate pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis, or severe dehydration. Depending on urgency, prioritize in-person or emergency care.

Severe breathing difficulty or chest pain
Confusion, seizure, or extreme drowsiness
Unable to drink or signs of dehydration
Rapidly spreading rash with high fever

We may recommend an early in-person visit

  • Infants, older adults, or pregnant patients
  • Heart, lung, or kidney disease, or a weakened immune system
  • Persistent high fever or prolonged symptoms
  • Bloody stools, vomiting blood, or severe abdominal pain

If you have severe breathing difficulty, impaired consciousness, seizures, or a clearly poor complexion, consider calling 119.

DURING YOUR CONSULTATION

What the doctor will ask

To understand your condition as accurately as possible, the doctor will review the following points in order.

  1. 01When the symptoms began and how they have changed
  2. 02Temperature, breathing, fluid intake, and urine output
  3. 03Symptoms such as fever, cough, vomiting, or diarrhea
  4. 04Infections circulating around you and any known exposure
  5. 05When you were tested and the result
  6. 06Medical conditions, possible pregnancy, and current medicines

TESTS AND TREATMENT

Tests and treatment

We will advise you on the tests you may need

Depending on your symptoms and when they began, we may direct you to a facility that can perform influenza or COVID-19 testing, blood tests, or imaging.

Treatment depends on the illness and your risk of severe disease

We will consider symptom-relief medicines such as fever reducers and, when indicated, antiviral treatment. Whether a prescription is appropriate is decided after the consultation.

The specific infection cannot be confirmed from symptoms alone. Antibiotics are considered only when a bacterial infection is suspected.
